Rainy Nights in Kansas

It had been stormy in Kansas forever, it seemed. The sun only stopped by once in awhile before hurrying like a yellow cat crossing the road, late for a date with a dry lap.

Last week, Patsy and I went to the Third Street Dairy Queen in Hutchinson, Kansas, and watched the rain from inside her car because it was cold. Cold...still so cold on May 20 that I hadn't planted tomatoes yet. I think that fireflies, cicadas and other delights of Summer will run late this year as they figuratively wait in their cars, too.

Today, however, the sun came out. A friend remarked that Spring was from 11AM to noon today. Then it got hot. Garden, here I come.
